Apply This Patch ONLY If You Are Experiencing the Following Symptoms:
You have upgraded from Microsoft Windows* 2000 to Microsoft Windows* XP with the Intel® Play™ Digital Movie Creator already installed. Afterwards, the Intel Play Digital Movie Creator application no longer works and gives an Error 38 message:
¡°Your camera is not plugged in. Please connect your camera. (38)".
If you open Windows Device Manager, the ¡®Intel(R) Play(TM) DMC Camera¡¯ device is listed with a ¡°!¡± symbol next to it under the Imaging Devices category. If you open this device¡¯s Properties, the Device status reports the error message:
¡°The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28) To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver.¡±
However, clicking on the Reinstall Driver button and selecting ¡°Install the software automatically (Recommended)¡± results in a box titled ¡°Cannot Install this Hardware¡± which reports the following error message:
¡°There was a problem installing this hardware: Intel(R) Play(TM) DMC Camera ¨C An error occurred during the installation of the device ¨C The class installer has denied the request to install or upgrade this device -- Click Finish to close the wizard.¡±
If you instead try to Uninstall this device, a window titled ¡°Device Manager¡± appears reporting the following error message:
¡°Failed to uninstall the device. The device may be required to bootup the computer.¡±
Who Should Download And Install This Patch:
Customers who have upgraded their computer from Microsoft Windows* 2000 to Microsoft Windows* XP, with the Intel® Play™ Digital Movie Creator already installed.
This patch is NOT NEEDED for customers who have upgraded from Windows 98/98SE/ME to Windows XP with the Intel® Play™ Digital Movie Creator already installed. Instead, the Intel Play Digital Movie Creator software should be uninstalled and reinstalled on these computers.
This patch is NOT NEEDED for customers who have upgraded to Windows XP and have not yet installed the Intel Play Digital Movie Creator. This issue only occurs if the Intel Play Digital Movie Creator was already installed when the computer was upgraded from Windows 2000 to Windows XP.
How To Apply This Patch:
1. Create a temporary folder on your hard drive and download the REVIVE.EXE file into this folder. 2. Double-click on the REVIVE.EXE file to extracts its three files into the temporary folder. These files are REVIVEDMC.EXE, REVIVEDMC.INF, and REVIVEDMC.TXT. 3. Double-click on the REVIVEDMC.EXE file to run this file. A box will appear and should show that the Digital Movie Creator service was successfully revived. When prompted, press Enter to end the program. 4. Physically unplug the Digital Movie Creator camera from the computer by removing the camera from its base. 5. Uninstall the Digital Movie Creator software by clicking on Start > Programs > Intel Play Digital Movie Creator > Install ¨C Modify Digital Movie Creator. Then select Remove all installed components. 6. Reinstall the Digital Movie Creator software 7. Physically connect the Digital Movie Creator camera to the computer by reseating the camera into its base. 8. Run the Digital Movie Creator application. When the Audio Setup Wizard will appear, select the appropriate microphone that you want the application to use when recording audio. You have the option of choosing the Digital Movie Creator camera or your computer¡¯s soundcard. Click OK. 9. If you are still getting Error 38 in the Digital Movie Creator application, perform these additional steps: a. Exit the Digital Movie Creator application b. Open Windows Device Manager by doing the following: right-click on My Computer icon, left-click on Properties, click on the Hardware tab, click on the Device Manager button. c. Double-click on the ¡®Intel(R) Play(TM) DMC Camera¡¯ device, which is listed under Imaging Devices. d. Click on the ¡®Reinstall Driver¡¯ button and select ¡®Install the software automatically (Recommended).¡¯ This should successfully reinstall the driver. When prompted, click Finish. e. Close all open windows. You should be able to run the Digital Movie Creator application without Error 38 appearing. 10. You can delete the temporary folder that you had created in Step 1.
